STAFF TRAINING
Rescue Centre Staff Training in Behavioural Assessment
Behavioural Assessment gives rescue centre staff more information about the dog and so allows for more accurate placement with the right owners, so preventing more dogs being returned to the centre because of incompatibility problems. It also shows the areas where the dog needs help, such as food guarding, socialisation with people or dogs, or work on handling problems.
I show how to safely interact with a dog whilst assessing the dog's behaviour and response to certain situations. Ideally four staff would be trained, two as primary handlers and two as secondary handlers. The sessions can be video taped and assessment sheets will be provided to be implemented as part of the testing procedure.
Training can be carried out over a full day (8 hours) or two half days (4hrs x 2).

Defensive Handling Skills
These procedures are taught over half a day (4 hours) with the emphasis on safety. I will show you how to safely handle a 'risky' dog, how to use various lead techniques for safely and effectively muzzling a dog, what signs to look for that will help you predict what the dog may or may not do, what to do if you are bitten and what to do if you are attacked. An invaluable course for ensuring safety for you and your staff.
